Troubleshoot FedEx gateway responses in AbleCommerce Gold

Here are some useful tips for troubleshooting the FedEx shipping gateway in AbleCommerce Gold.    Occasionally you might have the situation where you do not see any shipping rates from FedEx.  This can happen during checkout, or even with the basket shipping estimator control. The first step is to turn on the Debug Logging in the shipping gateway configuration as shown here. Now every gateway request and response will be recorded to a log file found in the website.  The file is ~/App_Data/Logs/AblePlugins.FedEx.Log To access this log file, you...

Configuring AbleCommerce Gold Shipping Estimator for international addresses

Came across an interesting challenge today with an Able Gold R1 install.   An international client could not get the shipping estimator to return rates for international addresses. You could choose the destination country from the dropdown list and click the button.  But no rates were returned. The site was configured to use the FedEx integrated shipping provider.   Yet the estimator would only give FedEx rates if it was given a US location. After digging through the code and the FedEx debug log responses, I figured out something I didn’t realiz...

WordPress file upload size HTTP 404 error greater than 1mb IIS 7.5

A default install of Server 2008 with IIS 7.5 will force Request Filtering to 1000000 bytes.   That’s 1mb. So a non asp.net website (i.e. PHP only) will always be limited to 1mb upload size. This assumes you’ve already updated your PHP.ini with the appropriate size limits as widely documented on the internet. To fix this, click on your website in IIS Manager.  In the IIS section of the website, double-click Request Filtering. Now, on the right side click Edit Feature Settings.   There you will find the default limit of 1mb (in bytes), change ...

Cisco VPN Client: Unable to Enable Virtual Adapter Error 442

On my Windows 7 PC, I could not get the VPN client to connect even when the configuration was correct. I eventually found a post online that said to stop the Internet Connection Sharing service before initiating the VPN connection.  This solved my problem and I was able to connect without any errors....

AbleCommerce CAPTCHA missing on login page

Several times I’ve run into the situation where I have moved an AbleCommerce store and CAPTCHA is broken.   Login page works fine, it just doesn’t show the CAPTCHA image. The problem (at least in my situation) was when I’m moving these sites, I’m updating them from ASP.Net 2.0 to 4.0.   To do this, I use the appropriate web.config file from the /Install/Framework/ folder provided by AbleCommerce. The only problem is the replacement web.config does not include the appropriate HTTP Handlers to drive the CAPTCHA control in AbleCommerce. The solution i...

Handler “ChartImageHandler” has a bad module “ManagedPipelineHandler” in its module list

HTTP Error 500.21 - Internal Server Error Handler "ChartImageHandler" has a bad module "ManagedPipelineHandler" in its module list   Moving an AbleCommerce Gold R4 install today created a weird error.   Site was moved from Windows 7 64-bit to staging server running Server 2008 R2. Able Gold R4 ran fine.  Booted right up, logged in and no issues noted.  Until I clicked the Charts tab.  None of the graphs were rendering.   Just the little bad-image icon in my Google Chrome. After a lot...

Server 2008 How to Identify svchost.exe processes

From time to time I’ve noticed servers with a high CPU or pegged CPU to 100%.    This causes the entire system to lag and there’s no clear explanation why.   Looking at processes in System Manager shows the offending process.   It’s svchost.exe.   But that service is generic for a myriad of server-level processing.   So which actual application or service is causing the server CPU to spike and peg? I found this excellent post that explains how to identify the actual service causing svchos...

How to improve Quickbooks Web Connector Speed

For years I have worked to improve the transfer speed of my AbleCommerce Web Connector for Quickbooks. But there’s only so much you can do in code. The rest is up to the internet connection, the speed of the Quickbooks PC and Quickbooks itself. A client of mine found a document that details how to increase the cache memory allocation of the Quickbooks database engine. So he passed it along to me to try. Why increase the cache memory you ask? Because the default is a whopping 512mb of RAM. Even if your PC hosting the quickbooks company file has 8gb of RAM, the database engine will only ever ...
