How to use the Server.MapPath in a class

Learning is the name of the game with ASP.Net.  Today I was trying to use Server.MapPath in my class library.  But it always throw an error and Visual Studio wouldn't suggest which Import statement to use.  Finally figured out you have specifically add a reference to System.Web in your project.  Apparently "Imports System.Web" at the top of your class file isn't enough.  So, once you add a reference to System.Web, you can now use System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath()   ...

Multiple stores and AbleCommerce 7 Web Connector for QuickBooks

Introduction Ok, I decided to try a completely cool thing this week.  It's one of those things as a developer you say to yourself "It should work, it really should work.  I just don't see any reason why it wouldn't work."  As a matter of fact, it did work! The Need I have two AbleCommerce stores.  Each has separate products but I need all the financial information pulled into the same QuickBooks company file.  I don't want separate company files.  I also want to be able to use QB cl...

Lessons learned from a heavily modified AC7 site

Introduction It was exactly 1 year ago this week when I started making changes to my AbleCommerce 7 install. The version was Beta 1. You read that right. That was before Final SR1, before Final, before RC3, before RC2, before RC1 and before Beta 2. I was a complete noob to eCommerce - AC7 was my first storefront product. Solunar.com was my first effort at an online business. It was also my first full .Net application. I had maybe 6 months of (incredibly simple) .Net programming experience. I knew nothing about HTML, XML, data classes or namespaces. With the help of Able staff, forum members a...

Figured out webparts today

Well I needed a break from all the projects this weekend, so I took the challenge of learning how webparts work in .Net.  Kind of weird with how they're initially configured, so I skipped all that (isn't life fun when you can do that?) and went straight for making a new webpart.  It's pretty slick - basically you can make any user control into a webpart by using an XML reference file to describe the webpart.  The tricky part was finding a useful example of one as it's not included with AC7.  Finally some digging through Goog...

Web site design almost finished

Well, it's taken weeks and weeks of brutal learning.  I swear there's nothing more challenging than setting up a completely new business selling custom programming online. You'd think it would be simple.  Buy some storefront software, set up a payment gateway, load in a few products and away you go.  NOT!  You've got documentation to write, compiled libraries to assemble and upload and even graphics design for the site itself.  I wanted this site to look great and I've worked my butt off on it. ...
